The Society actively carries out research to find, photograph and transcribe original documents relating to Belton-in-Rutland and surrounding parishes. These include census returns, wills, probate inventories, title deeds, land and hearth tax returns, and parish registers amongst many other documents. We also collect photographs which are recorded and stored electronically.
We have an oral and field walking group and carry out archeological digs during the summer. The oral group have made recordings of Beltonians and their memories of the village. Unfortunately, several people who have been interviewed are no longer with us but we do have their valuable reminiscences, in some cases extending back for almost a century.
Using the archival, archeological and oral research, the society has published six journals which are our main connection with the wider public. However, we intend to communicate to a much bigger audience via this website.
